The sensuality of steaming hot drinks and a good grasp of design is implicit in Kähler’s new thermos cup. At the same time, Spiro is a tribute to the beauty of conches.
The ingenuity is immediately retrieved in Spiro’s spiral design, which is inspired by the vigorous and yet exquisite appearance of the conch. Just like the snail shell, Spiro is modeled around an outer shell whose insulating quality protects and keeps the inside warm, thus ensuring complete coherence between the shape and function of the thermos cup.
The transparent and rich glaze is characteristic of Kähler ceramics, and Spiro’s colours appear intense and inviting.
Helle Rittig is trained at the Danish Design School in 1985, and today she runs her own ceramics workshop. She is primarily interested in the design of everyday applied art, which in Helle Rittig’s interpretation is beautiful and sensual in its functional simplicity.
Like the vase that sighs for flowers. Like the spout of the pot that invites for pouring. Or like the thermos cup calling for hot drinks and handheld comfort. Helle Rittig has previously received the Danish Arts and Crafts Award of 1879 and exhibited ceramic art in museums all across Denmark.
